Description

Kwandi quilt making is a hand stitching technique that originated in India hundreds of years ago. Traditionally made by women they were made from small pieces of old and worn out fabrics, repurposed through stitching them onto a background fabric. Tiny pieces of fabric then become transformed into something both beautiful and practical.

The running stitch used to join these fabrics together is just as important as the colourful patches of fabric. In this online workshop you will learn all about Kwandi quilting, its history and stitch a 5ā€ square which could be used as a coaster. The techniques you will learn can easily be transferred if you want to use this for a larger project.

The kit that you will receive through the post will have cotton backing fabric, a 5ā€ square of ultrafine wadding, perle 12 thread and an embroidery needle, an assortment of tiny fabric treasures and written instructions. You will need to provide a basic sewing kit to include scissors and pins.

A finger presser tool may be helpful to you and is available to purchase to separately.

The Zoom joining instructions will be sent to your email 48 hours before the workshop. The workshop will not be recorded but you will be sent a video tutorial 24 hours after the workshop takes place. It will be assumed that you are able to access Zoom via a table, computer or even a mobile phone.

This workshop is on 16th March 2024, 10:00am to 12:00 noon (GMT)
